HSME’s Home on the web. What are we about? We are a group of people who enjoy the world of engineering from building to just playing with models. There are three areas to the society, boating and trains and just recently added remote control truck. We have a purpose built boating lake which is based at Highfields and a high level railway track to take 3 1/2" 5" 7 1/4" locomotives the loop is 440ft and goes over the water and in a tunnel . We also have a purpose built railway located at Greenhead Park. this is ground level and it takes 5" and 71/4" locomotives . This can be found on post code setting for sat nav HD1 5NG
The society was founded in May 1919 and established a base at Highfields and was started by 6 members and by the end of the year the membership had extended to 55 and at present we have around 100 members and are still growing. In the early stages of 1998 the Train in the Park project began, which saw the design and building of wonderful public attraction which opened in August 2000. To find out more about each location click on the relevant menus on the left. The ladies of the group run our very popular tea room catering from beakfast to lunches.
It’s our hope that this site will help you learn about us and what we do and what we have accomplished. |

The work in the park is fully completed and it has made a big difference, we have new footpaths, lights, bandstand and the new lake which was brought back to life for the first time since the war. We have a family of ducks living on the pond what a joy it is. The conservatory has been completley refurbished and is serving food and drinks.
As you walk up in to the arena area the new look café has had major work done on it. This building has a multi use with a function room for meetings and also be a café. The park café backs right on to the station so you can have a brew then come for a ride on the train. The main arena area is once again ready to take heavy use for galas and other events so we very much hope to have the local events staged once again in the park.
The skateboard park I am told is hoping to have a facelift if funding is found.
Parking round the park is on the street and free on one side of the roads. |
